According to the Institute of Medicine, lack of health insurance causes 18,000 unnecessary deaths each year in the United States. The Fishing Partnership Health Plan has been providing access to health care coverage to thousands of fishermen and their family members since 1997. The FPHP reduced the rate of uninsured fishermen from 43% to 13%. In addition, the FPHP saved $4.15 for every dollar of federal funding spent. The Fishing Partnership Health Plan saves lives and saves money.
