The Fishing Partnership Health Plan
is the model for covering the
working uninsured
Eighty percent of uninsured Americans are from working families. The health care system is failing these families, and we are all paying for this breakdown. The uninsured "pay" with their lives. According to the Institute of Medicine, lack of health insurance causes 18,000 unnecessary deaths each year in the United States. And, the nation "pays" through lost productivity, cost shifting, higher taxes, etc. The Institute of Medicine estimates that the high rate of uninsured Americans costs the United States $65 to $130 billion each year.

The Fishing Partnership
Health Plan works
The Fishing Partnership Health Plan has been providing access to health care coverage, services, and education for thousands of fishermen and their family members since 1997. The FPHP provided its own direct health coverage for 14 years. In June 2011 FPHP coverage was merged with state programs created by statewide reform, and the FPHP began work to improve and expand our model community health navigation services. The FPHP reduced the rate of uninsured fishermen from 43% to 13%, and we will continue our work until 100% of fishing families have high quality health coverage. Moreover, FPHP will work with fishermen to create new benefits to improve the health and safety of all fishermen and fishing family members. |
